TREATMENT AREAS

TREATMENT AREAS

CHIN / NECK

These are common areas for unwanted hair, especially for women. Hairs on the chin and neck are sensitive to free-floating testosterone and may become thicker due to the presence of this hormone. The chin and neck can contain coarse dark hairs, as well as light-colored "peach fuzz" of varying thickness and length. While hair on the chin and neck can be embarrassing, there’s good news: Both areas are easily treated with electrolysis!

The coarse, or terminal hairs of the chin and neck are often stronger due to previous tweezing, waxing or shaving. These temporary hair removal procedures should be discontinued because they are incompatible with electrolysis.

For best results, initial appointments should be made weekly to keep up with the hair growth cycles and to treat the hairs when they are weakest. Over time, appointments can be spaced out up to 6 weeks apart for maintenance purposes until the hair no longer regrows.

UPPER / LOWER LIP

The areas around the lips are the most common for unwanted hair growth and, as with the chin and neck, the hair of the outer portions of the upper lip are sensitive to free-floating testosterone and may be coarse in some women.

Also as with the chin and neck, the hairs around the lips are commonly tweezed, waxed or shaved. These temporary hair removal procedures should be discontinued because they are incompatible with electrolysis.

Due to nerve endings overlapping at the mid-line of the body and the thinness of the skin around the lips, the lip area can be somewhat sensitive. Thankfully, IBC employs only the Apilus X-Cell, the most comfortable epilator on the market. To further minimize any discomfort, we use only insulated probes and we employ acupressure during the treatment to cancel out any minor pain.

Initially, appointments for the lip areas are typically bi-weekly.

EYEBROWS

The eyebrows enhance the eye and "frame the windows of the soul" - so it’s important to get them right! The ideal brow begins at the inner corner of the eye, peaks over the pupil, and ends at or just past the outer edge of the eye.

Because eye tissue tends to sag or droop as we age, it is best to shape the eyebrow by removing the hairs between and below the brow and leave as much hair as possible above the brow, giving the brow height and enhancing the eyes for years to come.

The hairs of the eyebrow respond fairly quickly to proper electrolysis. Therefore, prior to treatment, each hair (yes!) is discussed with the client to ensure proper shaping. The client holds a mirror during the treatment process and provides constant feedback to the electrologist.

Since the skin beneath the eyebrows is thin and sensitive, some brief swelling is common. This swelling slows down the shaping process, so several appointments are necessary to complete the brows. Initially, appointments should be made weekly until the brows are cleared of hair, and thereafter spaced out for maintenance purposes until the hair no longer regrows.

BIKINI/BRAZILIAN

Often clients have electrolysis on the bikini area because they are tired of shaving or waxing which creates a rash and/or ingrown hairs. Many women find that having hair in this area is unsightly, especially when wearing a swimsuit.

Like the back, pubic hairs are terminal hairs that are coarser and more deeply rooted. It is important to keep on a strict schedule in order to treat the hair in its early stages when it is weakest. For best results, appointments should be made biweekly.

ARMS / LEGS

Most women have unwanted hair on their legs - usually more on their lower legs, but often both upper and lower legs are problematic. Shaving and waxing are often used to manage the hair but these are only temporary solutions. Electrolysis is the only permanent way to relieve you of this unwanted hair.

Many women and some men have unwanted hair on their arms. Since they are often visible, dark, thick and/or long, arm hair often causes embarrassment. When the hair is removed, the arms look thinner and cleaner.

Regardless of the area, a series of treatments is required to completely and permanently clear it of hair. In part, this is due to the fact that at any given time each hair will be in either a growth or dormant stage. In growth stages, the hair follicle contains moisture, which improves the efficacy of the electrolysis treatment. During the few weeks that a hair is dormant, treatments are less effective. The length of the treatment series and the duration of each appointment are unique to the individual and must be determined by examination of the area.

Generally, if the treatments are scheduled according to the clinic’s recommendation, and there is not a hormone imbalance, or medications or medical conditions which would promote hair growth, the treatment series typically ranges from six months to two years.

BREAST / CHEST

The breasts and chest are common areas for unwanted hair growth, especially around the nipple/areola area. Women are very distressed about this growth, but surprisingly a majority of women experience it.

During your treatment, it is important to remember not to tweeze or wax this hair as it will make it thicker and stronger.

Initially, it is important to keep on a regular biweekly schedule, as the hairs are weakest when they first start to grow and electrolysis is most effective at this time.

EARS

As most men and some women age, hair can form on their ears. As with the chin, neck, and lips, the hair on the ears is sensitive to free-floating testosterone and other androgens that promote hair growth. Shaving, clipping and tweezing are temporary remedies - but often cannot keep pace with the continued growth. Electrolysis is the only permanent way to relieve this problem.

For best results, appointments should be weekly to keep up with the hair growth cycles and to treat the hairs when they are weakest.

BACK

Many people, especially men, have hair on their backs that they would like to have permanently removed. The hairs of the back are terminal hairs and are coarser than most other hairs of the body. Whether you have a small patch or an entire back of hair, electrolysis is the only permanent way to relieve you of this problem.

Waxing and other temporary treatments should be discontinued as they are incompatible with electrolysis.

For best results, appointments should be made in weekly increments to keep up with the hair growth cycles and to treat the hairs when they are weakest.

ABDOMEN

Many clients have hair on their stomachs, especially the area between the navel and bikini line. Whether you have a small strip or a large area, electrolysis is the only permanent way to relieve you of this problem.

Initially, it is important to keep on a regular weekly schedule, as the hairs are weakest when they first start to grow and electrolysis is most effective at this time.
